Brazil Is Hip in Moscow

Today marks the start of the “Brazil-Russia Fashion” exposition, a presentation of Brazilian jewelry, clothing, footwear, and cosmetic products.

The event began with a fashion show including pieces designed by Brazilian fashion designers Alexandre Herchovich, Amir Slama, and Walter Rodrigues.

The exposition is sponsored by the Export Promotion Agency (Apex), the Brazilian Footwear Industry Association (Abicalçados), the Brazilian Association of Personal Hygiene, Perfume, and Cosmetics Industries (Abihpec), the Brazilian Textile and Footwear Industry Association (ABIT), the Brazilian Clothing Designers Association (Abest), and the Brazilian Gemstone and Precious Metals Institute (IBGM).

Through September 29, products from 34 Brazilian companies will be on display in the T-Modul Pavillion, a space traditionally used for important fashion events in Moscow.

According to the Minister of Development, Industry, and Foreign Trade, Luiz Fernando Furlan, who is in Moscow, Brazil intends to triple its trade flow with Russia by 2005.

Brazilian exports currently represent 3% of all the Russians buy from abroad. In the first half of this year, Brazilian exports to Russia attained US$ 690.2 million.

Brazil has a strong presence in Russia in meat, coffee, and sugar cane liquor (cachaça). Shoes, perfume products, soybeans, and sugar have also begun to find a place.

A survey of Russian consumers detected room to diversify sales to include textile and fashion goods.
