Experts and NGOs Brainstorm Ways to Ease Brazil’s Poverty

Bazilian scientists, representatives of government agencies and non-governmental organizations, and university students have been working together to define an agenda to alter the reality of poverty, inequality, and prejudice by guaranteeing more people access to goods and services.

They have been participating in the seminar, "Social Inclusion," organized by the Social Research Institute of the Joaquim Nabuco Foundation (Fundaj), in the Northeastern Brazilian city of Recife.

According to Fundaj researcher, Joanildo Burity, the idea of the seminar, which ended yesterday, is to design a map of exclusion and propose initiatives to promote inclusion.

"Our expectation is that the proposals presented at the seminar can serve as a basis for government administrators to redefine policies for social inclusion and promotion of citizenship."

Some of the themes discussed at the seminar are social movements and citizenship, religion, violence, and technological development.
