Brazil’s Foreign Trade Surplus Grows 30% in Semester to US$ 22.712 Billion

Brazilian exports yielded US$ 2.001 billion on the fourth week of July and imports, US$ 1.658 billion, which resulted in a surplus of US$ 343 million, the smallest weekly result in the month.

The information was released today by Brazil’s Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade.


During the month, shipments already yielded US$ 7.756 billion, the foreign purchases added up to US$ 4.715 billion and the surplus is at US$ 3.041 billion. There was an increase in 18.6% in the export average per business day in comparison to July 2004.


In relation to last month, the increase was of 4.5%. In relation to imports, the increase in the business day average was of US$ 17.3% in comparison to July last year, and of 5% in relation to June this year.


In the year’s accumulated value, revenues with exports reached US$ 61.434 billion, against US$ 50.183 billion in the same period last year. Imports added up to US$ 38.722 billion, against US$ 32.548 billion in the first seven months of 2004.


The surplus in the trade balance is positive for Brazil in US$ 22.712 billion, against US$ 17.635 billion in the period from January to July last year.
