Brazil Marks UN’s 60th Anniversary with Seminar on UN Reform

The role of the United Nations after the 2005 World Summit is the subject of "The New UN" seminar, held by the UN Information Center in Brazil (UNIC Rio), today, in Rio de Janeiro.

The event is part of the celebrations that mark the 60th anniversary of the UN, and has the objective of fostering discussion, by Brazilian society, about the economic, political, and social aspects that involve the reform of the UN.

The World Summit gathered approximately 160 Heads of State and Government at UN headquarters, in New York, September 14-16.

Their objective was to analyze the progress of the Millennium Goals, and to approve the most ambitious reform proposal of UN’s history. The meeting happened during the UN General Assembly Session that celebrated the 60th anniversary of the organization.
