Brazil Offers Job Training for Poor Women

Brazil’s First Social Consortium of Youth (Consórcio Social da Juventude), which will train and place young women on the job market was inaugurated on Friday, December 16, in Goiânia, the capital of Goiás state, by Brazilian Minister of Labor, Luiz Marinho.

The new program will reach 500 young women over the next four months, training them in such skills as making jewelry, sewing, food security, secretarial work, preparing natural foods and sweets.

The program target is the young woman who comes from low-income families, the single mother, women who are illiterate or have less than an elementary education, women who live on the street, or in situations of risk.

The Ministry of Labor has earmarked US$ 653,400 (1.5 million reais) for the Evangelical Christian Association in Defense of Life (Acedevida), which is the program anchor group.
