5 Natural Methods of Pain Relief

Believe it or not, there are many ways to reduce symptoms of pain in a natural, non-medical form. Whatever your reason for alternative medicine, you’ll be glad to know you are spoilt for choice when it comes to the treatment of pain.

Turmeric

Turmeric is most commonly known as a spice. It is the ingredient which will turn your curry into that yellowish colour. However, it is also beneficial for reducing universal pesky health problems. It helps to protect the body from free radicals using its compound curcumin, aiding in the prevention of cell and tissue damage.

Turmeric can be found in treatments for many illnesses or issues including:

  • inflammation
  • ulcers
  • upset stomach
  • cancer
  • psoriasis
  • indigestion

Heat and Ice

Hot and cold therapy is widely used for muscle pains, arthritis or sprains, but the game is knowing when to use heat and when to use cold. Generally, the rule abides by using cold for acute injuries or swollen areas, whereas heat is used for muscles and stiffness.

Heat therapy can be given through dry heat, such as a hot pack, or moist heat like a steamed towel. It is a longer healing process, and can be required anywhere from 15 minutes up to 2 hours. Cold therapy including ice packs or ice baths, should never last longer than 20 minutes. Usually 10 minutes will suffice.

Cloves

Another natural pain relief is cloves. Aside to its general use of spicing up rice and meat dishes, it has many other tricks up its sleeve.

Although there is no cure for the common cold, cloves could provide some reduction to the symptoms, along with nausea. If you have ever had a toothache, then you’ll know that this is one of the most persistent pains around. Clove oil is used as a temporary treatment while you are waiting to be seen by a dentist. Apply it directly to the affected tooth. Be careful not to touch your gums or tongue when administering, as it will most definitely sting. Its functions don’t end there. Cloves are also associated with the remedy of headaches and arthritis pain.

How does this work? Well, cloves contain the active ingredient eugenol, which provides pain relief and decrease in swelling.

CBD Oil

This is an increasingly popular remedy for many frequent problems such as anxiety, sleep disorders and depression. However it can also branch out to many other forms of help, one being a painkiller.

Subject to some hesitation, there is no need to worry. CBD oil is not going to make you high, as it targets different receptors in the body. It is perfectly safe, undergoing several studies to provide proof of its capabilities, it is also legal to purchase in pharmacies and other like-minded stores.

It has known functions for the treatment of muscle pain and spasms, arthritic pain and inflammation related injury or discomfort.

Ginger

It has been found that ginger capsules can actually be just as effective at relieving pain as over the counter medications such as ibuprofen, when it comes to menstrual cramps. Ginger is best known for its anti-nausea property, often taken in the form of tea or ginger water, but this isn’t the only perk.

This pungent root is also stomach cooling, pain fighting and joint easing, making it a highly recommended product in herbal remedies.

Conclusion

There are many steps you can take without having to go down a medical route, if that is not what you are wanting. Similarly, if medication is not something of which is an option for you, then hopefully you’ll find help within this.
