The World Debates in Brazil How to Be Energy Savvy for the Coming Decades

At the World Energy Council’s (WEC) Regional Forum, which began Thursday, March 2, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazilian researchers will present a report mapping the prospects for the country’s energy sector through 2030.

The projections were prepared by the Brazilian Committee of the WEC, which is a global body composed of producers, consumers, and researchers of energy in all its forms, with the goal of analyzing and recommending sustainable ways for the population to use it and guarantee its supply.

The WEC was founded in 1924, with 1700 members from 40 countries. The Brazilian Committee joined the organization in 1928. The Council, which is meeting for the first time in Brazil, is discussing prospects for the sector through 2050. The meeting will run through Saturday, March 4.

The debate represents a regional forum of the Council, which will conclude its analyses at the 20th World Energy Congress, scheduled to take place in Rome, Italy, in 2007. The congress occurs every three years and is expected to attract approximately five thousand international specialists.
