China Is Third Largest Importer of Brazil’s Farm Products

China licensed 14 new poultry producing establishments from Brazil to become their suppliers. With this, the number of slaughtering plants authorized to export to that country increases to 24, according to the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply.

The new factories are located in the states of Mato Grosso do Sul, in the midwestern region of Brazil, Minas Gerais, in the Southeast, Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul, in the South.

The Chinese are studying the possibility of licensing another two plants, in Santa Catarina and São Paulo. Poultry slaughter plants in the country were inspected by the Chinese in March.

China was the third destination for the Brazilian agribusiness products in 2005. From 2000 to 2005, national exports to the Chinese increased about 480%. Last year, Brazil exported approximately US$ 80 million in in natura poultry to China.
