40 Brazilian Men, Women and Children Found Inside Truck in Texas

Wall separating the United States from Mexico US immigration authorities announced yesterday, February 21, that they are deporting 40 Brazilians who were found inside a truck's trailer last Saturday, February 17, in Falfurrias, Texas, which is 75 miles north of the Mexican border on highway U.S. 281.

They were found out at a road checkpoint. There were men, women and children and they were sitting on the floor of the quite hot windowless trailer. They were found thanks to a police dog who alerted to the presence of people scent. Nobody was hurt, according to the police.

The unnamed truck driver, an American of Weslaco, also in Texas, was charged with the illegal transportation of illegals. Less than a month ago the American justice had sentenced another truck driver, Tyrone Williams, to life in prison. In May 2003, 19 illegal immigrants died inside a sweltering truck Williams was  driving.

The American government has been taken several measures to slow the entry of illegal immigrants through the south border with Mexico. Among the planned moves US authorities intend to place 6,000 armed men policing the frontier and build a wall separating both countries, something Mexico has vehemently opposed.

Last year, Texas Governor Rick Perry announced a plan to install close to 3,000 high-definition camera aimed at the Mexican border. American web surfers will be invited to keep and eye on the border and call a toll-free number to report the entry of illegal aliens. A kind of Big Brother in which the eyes of the whole population would take the place of the state.
