90,000 Plus Passengers in One Day Give Brazil’s TAM a New Record

Brazilian Airline TAM Brazil's airline leader TAM announced that it carried a record 91,000 passengers on its domestic and international flights in a single day,  Monday, April 9, right after the Easter holiday, topping a record that hadn't been beaten for close to a year.

Out of this total, about 82,600 people traveled on domestic lines operated by the company and accounted for a 84% of the passengers while the other 8,800 passengers took 72% of available seats on TAM international flights.

This resulted represents 80% total load factor for the airline company on the Monday following Easter.

The previous record of passengers carried in one day was reached on July 19, 2006, when 84,340 people traveled on TAM flights, slightly higher than the 84,300 people reached on February 16, on the Friday of Carnaval 2007.

Last March, TAM increased its market share in domestic flights to 51.72%, the highest level in this segment reached by the company in its 30 years of history, and kept the leadership achieved 45 months ago.

In the international lines segment operated by Brazilian airlines, TAM increased its market share to 62.86% in March 2007 and also continued the leadership achieved in this market since July last year.

TAM has been the leader in the Brazilian domestic market for more than three years, and held a 51.7% domestic market share and 62.9% international market share at the end of March 2007.

TAM operates regular flights to 48 destinations throughout Brazil. It serves 75 different cities in the domestic market through regional alliances.

Additionally, it maintains code-share agreements with international airline companies that allow passengers to travel to a large number of destinations throughout the world.
