For the First Time Brazil Is Part of European Open Days

Open Days Geddel Vieira Lima, the Brazilian minister of National Integration, is participating in the event Open Days – European Week of Regions and Cities, which started last October 8 and will continue to next Thursday, October 11, in Brussels, Belgium.

By invitation of the minister at the European Commission, Danuta Hubner, Lima took part in the seminar "The International Dimension of Regional Development Policies," which happened October 9, along with the Chinese and Russian Regional Development ministers.

For the first time ever, the event counted on the participation of a Brazilian government representative. The Ministry of National Integration took to Europe a cartographic exhibition of the National Policy for Regional Development.

That plan was established in February 2007 to reduce regional inequalities and to activate the development potential of Brazilian regions. Lima also talked about the Local Production Arrangements (APLs).

According to the Ministry of Integration, for the fifth edition of Open Days: European Week of Regions and Cities, approximately 5,000 representatives of European Union cities, regions and territories are expected. The theme for this year is "Making it Happen: Regions Deliver Growth and Jobs."
