Brazil’s Aircraft Maker Embraer Has New Training Center

Embraer (Empresa Brasileira de Aeronáutica – Brazilian Company of Aeronautics), Brazil's aircraft manufacturer, inaugurated last Thursday, June 26, a new center for personnel development. The facility, comprised of two three-story buildings and one auditorium, was named Casimiro Montenegro Filho and is located in the city of São José dos Campos, in the southeastern Brazilian state of São Paulo.

The new place will provide formation, training and development to the company's employees. There, the company's programs in education, training and development will be executed. The intention, upon establishing the center, is to optimize the funds invested in the area and the logistical aspect.

The premises count on large screens, projectors, computer rooms, infrastructure for events, library and videoconference, in addition to traditional rooms. Courses, lectures, formation programs, discussion forums and workshops will be promoted.

One of the buildings, with conclusion forecast for August, will house the Program for Specialization in Engineering. The program was created in 2001 to offer specialization in aeronautics to the company's engineers, by means of a master's course. Other wings should be inaugurated in 2009, such as workshops for training in industrial operation.

"Our company is the result of a development model based on education and knowledge, launched by the Brazilian federal government immediately after World War II and carried on, generation after generation, by men with great strategic vision, moral and intellectual respectability, beginning with Air Marshall Casimiro Montenegro Filho, to whom we have the honor of dedicating our people development center," said the director-president at Embraer, Frederico Fleury Curado, during the inauguration ceremony.

Casimiro Montenegro Filho was an aviator colonel who made a decisive contribution to the formation of the Brazilian aeronautic industry and also in the formation of high-level technicians in the area.

The late colonel was born in the northeastern Brazilian state of Ceará in 1904. Casimiro was an engineer with the Brazilian Military Engineering Institute (IME) and created the Brazilian Aeronautics Technological Institute (ITA).
