Peugeot Citroí«n Celebrating 9.5% Growth in Brazil

Peugeot Citroën Brazil was the Brazilian carmaker that presented the largest growth in 2005. According to information disclosed by the company this week, sales of cars and light commercial vehicles rose 26% in comparison to 2004. The sector as a whole, according to the company, has grown 9.5%.

Always according to the company, the number of units sold on the
Brazilian domestic market in 2005 reached 80,400, a 5% share of the domestic market. This placed Peugeot Citroën in fifth place among the Brazilian carmakers and in first place among those that installed units in the country more recently.

In all, the company produced 93,500 vehicles last year, an increase of 43% in comparison to 2004. Since its inauguration in February 2001, the French factory, located in Porto Real, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, southeastern Brazil, has already produced over 250,000 units.

Regarding exports, in 2005 the group shipped the equivalent to US$ 200 million in vehicles, engines and parts, a growth of 70% over the previous year. According to information supplied by the company, foreign sales of vehicles totaled 20,000.

In Brazil, the carmaker produces models Peugeot 206 hatch and Station Wagon, the minivan Citroën Xsara Picasso and the compact Citroën C3.

Apart from that, the company also produces 1.6-liter and 1.4-liter gasoline and dual fuel engines. Last year, the company produced 100,000 engines, double the total in 2004.
