122 Brazilians Still on List of Disappeared Due to Tsunami

Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Relations is looking for 122 Brazilians who are still unaccounted for in the Southeast Asian countries struck by tidal waves that decimated parts of the coasts of Thailand, Malaysia, India, Sri Lanka, and the Maldive Islands, among other countries, on December 26.

According to data provided by the Ministry, 265 Brazilians have already been localized in the region.

The Consular Division is looking for Brazilians in the capital cities of nine countries, such as Jakarta (Indonesia), Bangkok (Thailand), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), and New Delhi (India).

The searches are mostly concentrated on hospitals and hotels and will continue as long as there are names on the list of those who have not been localized.

The Ministry asks Brazilians who have friends or relatives still unaccounted for in those countries to remove their names from the list of search requests, if they have had any contact with these individuals.

The Ministry’s telephone numbers for these requests are 55-61-411-6999 and 55-61-411-6456. There is also an e-mail address: dac@mre.gov.br.
