Biodiesel Will Be Available Throughout Brazil

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva stated that the program to foster biodiesel production in Brazil will have the logistic support of Petrobras, in order to ensure product distribution within Brazilian territory, which, according to Lula, is the main challenge for program success.

“It is our responsibility to make the biodiesel program have a national outreach, and the biodiesel become a definitive fuel for Brazil,” said the President.

“The more the consumption grows, the greater our responsibility will be to ensure that every Brazilian citizen, from anywhere in Brazil, be able to use biodiesel in his/her car.”

On March 24, Lula participated in the inauguration ceremony of the first Brazilian biodiesel manufacturing plant, in the city of Cássia, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazilian Southeast region.

Biodiesel is a renewable fuel produced from animal fats or vegetable oils, such as those found on soybeans, castor beans, dendê palm nuts, and sunflower seeds.

In addition from being a clean, non-pollutant technology, biodiesel has many economic positive aspects.

President Lula mentioned that, currently, Brazil imports approximately US$ 2 billion in oil, which is the raw material of the common diesel.
