Panama National Airline Orders from Brazilian Embraer

Panamanian Copa Airlines has converted two Brazilian Embraer 190 options into firm orders, adding to the original order of ten Embraer 190s announced in October 2004.

All of Copa’s Embraer 190s will be Advanced Range (AR) versions, giving the airline additional range and operating flexibility.

Delivery of the two additional aircraft is scheduled for October and November 2006.

“The Embraer 190 jets will provide our passengers comfort, the latest in technology, and the same high-quality on-board service that we offer with our larger aircraft,” said Pedro Heilbron, CEO of Copa Airlines.

“Our focus is on optimum operations and the new Embraer 190s are a fundamental factor in allowing us to add frequencies and destinations according to market needs.”

“The Embraer 190 will allow Copa to better match capacity to demand in small markets that can be more efficiently served by aircraft with fewer than 100 seats,” said Frederico Curado, Embraer Executive Vice-President – Civil Aircraft.

Copa currently serves 31 destinations in 20 countries with an all-Boeing B737 fleet.  As the national airline of Panama, Copa Airlines has built an impressive international network and established Panama City as the “Hub of the Americas.”

Embraer expects the Embraer 190 to be awarded type certification in August 2005.
