Brazil Expects a 30% Jump in Exports to Arabs

The president of the Brazilian Export Promotion Agency (Agência de Promoção de Exportações, Apex), Juan Quirós, said that Brazilian exports to the Arab League countries should grow 30% this year in comparison with 2004.

Last year’s sales to the Arab League amounted to US$ 4 billion, 46% more than the US$ 2.7 billion exported in 2003.

In order to expand trade relations, the Apex plans to hold 15 events, between sectorial fairs and trade missions, in the Arab countries by the end of the year.

Brazilian entrepreneurs will also attend expositions that display the Arab world, such as the Cairo International Fair, the Arabian Travel Market, the Damascus International Fair, Arabia Jewelry, and others.

Quirós highlighted the event that will be held in Jordan, in August, in partnership with the Iraqi Chamber of Commerce.

Iraqi businesspeople will travel to Jordan, where a Brazilian trade mission will acquaint them with products such as food, cosmetics, medical equipment for hospitals, construction materials, shoes, beverages, clothing, and auto parts.

In November the Apex will sponsor an event in Dubai to promote Brazilian clothes.

The president of the Apex attended the Brazil-Arab Countries Entrepreneurial Encounter in the capital of São Paulo.

According to him, around 100 Arab entrepreneurs are interested in products such as food, beverages, shoes, construction services, and applied engineering.

He informed that, at present, products such as chicken, beef, sugar, tractors, and auto parts constitute around 68% of Brazil’s exports to the Arab League countries.
