Digital TV? Brazil Has to Wait at Least 10 Years.

The process of implanting digital TV in Brazil may still take up to 10 years. According to the Minister of Communications, Hélio Costa, before the evaluation process and adaptation of a model can be established in the country, the opinions of society and the companies that operate in the sector should be heard.

According to the Minister, the project is being developed by a committee of federal universities.

“It is a slow process. To reach all the federal units and all of the country’s major locations, we will really have a process that takes six to ten years. Countries like the United States are calculating it will take 5 years to implant digital TV,” the Minister commented.

Costa also said that of the US$ 27.7 million (65 million reais) in investments originally proposed for the project, US$ 16.7 million (39 million reais) have already been made available by the Ministry of Science and Technology’s Studies and Projects Finance Agency (FINEP) to all the institutions responsible for the studies.
