Brazil: Vehicle Production Up 8%, Agricultural Vehicles Down 18%

Brazil produced 230,755 vehicles in March, 12.3% more than in February (205,534). In comparison with March, 2005, the increase amounted to 1.8%. In the first quarter of 2006, the country manufactured 631,688 vehicles, 7.8% more than in the first quarter of 2005 (585,786).

Production of agricultural vehicles rose 17.9% in March, in comparison with February – 4,521 units in March versus 3,833 in February – but, in comparison with March, 2005, when 5,148 units were produced, there was a 12.2% drop.

Production of agricultural vehicles for the quarter was also down, 18.4%, in comparison with the first quarter of last year – 11,283 units versus 13,822 last year.
