Ana Hickmann Adds Charm and Value to Jewels Made in Brazil

Brazilian jewels are already very successful in the country and abroad. What would happen if personalities in the fashion world signed the collections? Two jewelers from the state of São Paulo, in southeastern Brazil, Denoir and Guilherme Duque, are betting on partnerships that may add value to the products.

Denoir has invited top model Ana Hickmann, who signed a collection that she helped create. The products are 18 carat gold and muiracatiara, certified wood from the Amazon.

"Mixing products is always interesting, but in this case it resulted in beautiful jewels that are young and ecologically correct," explained the design coordinator at Denoir, Lélia Streinberg.

"Worked by an artisan from Minas Gerais, who bought our idea, the wood from each jewel has become practically unique, as he played with the original marks of the wood at the time of sculpting the items," she added.

According to her, the jewels have also revealed their luxury side in their signature. The top model’s "AH" initials appear on all the products, accompanied by a diamond. A detail, this is on the inside of the jewel. "It is the luxury of exclusiveness, of self-caress," explained the designer.

Traditional jeweler Guilherme Duque, in turn, which has been on the market since 1940, has released one more collection created and signed by stylist Fause Haten. The partnership began four years ago.

This stylist of Arab descent’s passion for Brazil is still the inspiration for his jewels. Conches and maps of Brazil are still objects of desire and have received the company of another Brazilian symbol: the country flag. Not the whole flag, just the center that represents the country’s immense blue sky and the stars that represent each of the states.

"The jewels with Brazilian references are a tendency of recent times. Brazilians have discovered that they like being Brazilian," stated Fause Haten.

In the beginning of 2006, Haten also sought inspiration in religious icons. Aware of the magic that objects of belief are capable of provoking, the stylist created a line that has become a fad. With the success of the first items, in each collection he incorporates the theme into the jewels. The religious items of the season are the Holy Spirit and the Sacred Heart in rubies and diamonds.

For a more classic line of jewels, the stylist sought inspiration in picture Sunflowers, by Vincent Van Gogh. He created a whole collection in white and pink gold, diamonds, emeralds, citrines and white topazes. The items are large and colorful.

"My collections are always connected to what I like doing. I like jewels that adorn women. I prefer larger items that call attention," he pointed out.

Without forgetting the masculine public, the stylist has developed a line especially for them. He used crosses, bolts and screws to compose the collection in white gold, and also produced rings with prayers to St George.

The collections signed by Ana Hickmann and Fause Haten were released during the 42nd edition of the National Fair of the Jewels, Watches and Related Articles Industry (Feninjer), between February 04 and 07, in São Paulo. The event brought together 150 Brazilian companies and had a turnover of over R$ 100 million (US$ 45.7 million).
