Brazil’s Varig Expands International Cargo Service with New Planes and Routes

Varig Log Varig Log is expanding its fleet of aircraft and also its routes. The company purchased eight  Boeing 757-200F aircraft early this year – of which five have already arrived – and leased three freighters.

Up to the end of 2007, the company should count on 20 large cargo transporters, increasing its cargo capacity to 110 million tons/km per month, 31.48% more than the current transport capacity.

With the expansion of its fleet, starting tomorrow, July 18, Varig Log will inaugurate five new flights to Miami, will start operating with two aircraft flying to the northeast of Brazil and will have a new flight to Bogotá, leaving from Viracopos airport, in the city of Campinas, in the interior of the state of São Paulo, and another two weekly flights to Madrid and Amsterdam.

The company will also start offering routes from Miami to several destinations within Brazil. There will be two new weekly flights, one to Porto Alegre, in Rio Grande do Sul and another to Curitiba, Paraná (both in southern Brazil), one to Confins, in Minas Gerais (Southeast) and one to Salvador, in Bahia (Northeast).

Another innovation is the two new shared routes between the southern capitals of Curitiba and Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, providing the market with another two options in the south. As well as a new flight to New York.

On August 21st, Varig Log will inaugurate three flights to Mexico. The company forecasts a 25% increase in revenues.
