Brazilian Flagstone Maker Bets on the South of Brazil

Flagstones by Brazilian Sistrel Brazilian company Sistrel, a maker of flagstones and prefabricated elements, has recently inaugurated a new industrial unit in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina. Based in the state of São Paulo (Southeast), the company, which has existed for 18 years, manufactures and sells truss beams and panels for flagstones, non-adherent prestressing solutions, containment curtains, among other products.

Since last March, the company already counted on units in the southern states of Santa Catarina and Paraná. The new factory in Santa Catarina was established in the city of Paulo Lopes, 50 kilometers (31 miles) away from the capital Florianópolis. With the new unit, the traditional maker of flagstones and prefabricated elements should double its production capacity.

"The new factory is a launch pad for future growth in Brazil. It consolidates Sistrel's presence in the Southern region of Brazil and paves the way for new enterprises," says Eleutério Pinheiro, production director at the company.

"We poured in heavy investment into structuring the Santa Catarina unit. Now, we are possibly going to expand across the entire Santa Catarina state coastline, and to the main cities in the interior of the state."

Over the next five years, Sistrel is going to invest 2.1 million reais (US$ 1.2 million) in equipment, premises and workforce training. The company's products comply with the regulations of the Brazilian Association of Technical Norms (ABNT), with regard to resistance of the concrete, framework recoating, anchorage hooks and traceability.
