Brazil’s Lula Wants a World Where Poor Benefit from Globalization

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said on his speech, during the opening ceremony of the Summit of South American – Arab Countries, that it is necessary to define a new economic and commercial international geography.

“We look for a fair and balanced trade that grants to poor countries the benefits of globalization,” he said.

According to the President, the main objective of the meeting is to strengthen democracy and peace.

“What mobilizes leaders present here is the need to strengthen a political arena that contributes for the establishment of a world of peace, democracy, and social justice (…) and of a solid cooperation bridge between South America and the Arab world.”

Lula emphasized that this Summit, which has the participation of Arab leaders, is the result not only of the work of the Brazilian government, but also of the efforts of all South American leaderships.

“Our meeting is a demonstration of the belief that dialog can be a way of bringing together distant countries, different cultures and ways of seeing the world,” said Lula.
