Brazilian Mission in London Wants to See Jean Charles Video

Wagner Gonçalves, the prosecutor who heads the Brazilian mission sent to London to accompany the investigation of the death of Jean Charles de Menezes, says he wants to see the video of what happened in the underground station when London police shot the Brazilian believing he was a suicide bomber.

The Brazilian mission has met with the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC), as well as representatives of the municipal prosecutor’s office.

“We are here to follow the investigation and see what is happening, not to prejudge things,” explained Gonçalves.

He added that the IPCC is doing sound, serious work. “But the fact is that this case will show whether or not they really are independent.

“From our point of view it is better to have the IPCC dealing with the case than the Metropolitan Police of London which has had questionable behavior in the case,” concluded Gonçalves.
