Brazil Proposes Brazilian Center at National Australian University

Brazil and Australia, represented by their Foreign Ministers, Alexander Downer and Celso Amorim, during meetings yesterday in Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, celebrated 60 years of diplomatic relations, discussed issues of mutual interest and signed agreements on further cooperation in education.

In April 2005, the two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding in the area of education with emphasis on professional training. Yesterday’s meeting went into more details on that area of cooperation.

The two ministers discussed stronger ties and an exchange program in the areas of science and technology, as well. Minister Amorim made a proposal to establish a Portuguese language and Brazilian civilization center at the National Australian University in the future.

Celso Amorim should visit Australia in the second half of 2006 for further discussions.
