Brazilian General Found Dead in Haiti Goes Back Home

Today in Port-au-Prince, capital of Haiti, a ceremony in honor of Brazilian general Urano Bacellar will take place. Bacellar was found dead in his hotel room on Saturday. Following the ceremony the body will be transported back to Brazil.

General Bacellar had been the commander of the UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) since September 2005.

With the death of the Brazilian commander the Chilean general Eduardo Aldunate Herman, the vice commander, takes over until a permanent substitute is appointed.

In a note, the UN said that secretary general Kofi Annan was "shocked and saddened" by the news of the death of general Urano Bacellar. The note goes on to say that a complete investigation will be made.
