Brazil’s Lula Launches Plan to Boost Productivity and Solidarity

In a nationwide radio and TV broadcast on Monday, January 16, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva presented a balance sheet on his 36 months in office and announced the launch of a new program which will integrate action plans in the productive and social sectors.

The plan is called "Productive and Solidaristic Brazil." On one hand, it will deal with action in the social area, promoting human values. On the other, it will stimulate the productive area and boost economic development.

"This is not exactly something new, but rather an advance in bringing together what we have been doing ever since taking office," said the President.

He continued: "Through ‘Productive and Solidaristic Brazil’ we will make a determined effort in the areas of civil construction, family farming and microcredit.

We will expand our priorities in infrastructure, with special attention on energy and transportation. We will also move ahead with consolidating important programs in the area of regional development."
