World Economic Forum Holds Meeting on LatAm in Brazil

The World Economic Forum (WEF) is going to hold for the first time a meeting exclusively dedicated to Latin America, on the 5th and 6th of April, in the city of São Paulo, southeast Brazil.

According to information from the Forum’s press advisory, the event will gather 250 leaders from business, government and civil society.

The theme of the meeting will be "Building a Stronger Latin America in the Global Economy" and will have as the four main points of discussion managing global and regional risks; improving competitiveness in the region; continuing with the integration agenda; and re-evaluating the investment framework.

The aim of the meeting, according to the Forum, is to "be a platform to help leaders leverage the climate of changes and economic opportunities in the region".

Amongst the confirmed participants, according to the organization, are the Brazilian ministers Luiz Fernando Furlan (Development, Industry and Foreign Trade) and Roberto Rodrigues (Agriculture), the president of the Central Bank, Henrique Meirelles, the secretary general of the Organization of American States, José Miguel Insulza, and the president of Gerdau, group in the steelworks sector, Jorge Gerdau Johannpeter.

The global edition of the WEF ended Sunday, January 29, in Davos, Switzerland, as did the regional edition of the World Social Forum (WSF) in Caracas, in Venezuela.

This year the WSF was divided into three regional editions, the first one took place in Mali, the second in Venezuela and the third will happen in Pakistan.
