Marble and Granite Have Their Day in Brazil

Today, May 24, is the first day of the 2nd International Business Roundtable for Marble and Granite, in the southeastern Brazilian state of EspÀrito Santo.

Promoted by the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (Sebrae), the roundtables should generate a turnover of US$ 3.5 million in business deals.

In all, 117 companies will participate in the roundtables, of which 96 are Brazilian, from the states of Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Bahia and São Paulo and 21 international purchasing companies. The meetings will carry on until tomorrow at the Social Service for Commerce (Sesc) in Guarapari, city in Espírito Santo.

Espírito Santo is the main producer and exporter of ornamental rocks in Brazil. The sector generates about 20,000 direct jobs and another 130,000 indirect jobs, covering all cities in the state. The state is responsible for 62% (in dollars) of Brazilian exports, 54% (in tons) of the volume exported.
