Brazil Already Getting Energy from LatAm’s Largest Wind Park

The first phase of the wind energy park, which produces energy with the force of the wind, of the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul is being inaugurated today, June 28, in Osório, coastal city in the state.

During the ceremony, 25 wind generators will be activated, which will produce 50 megawatts (MW), sufficient energy to supply a city of 200,000 people.

The part of the Wind Energy Park of Osório to start functioning now represents one third of the wind energy generation complex.

According to the company responsible for the undertaking, Ventos do Sul Energia, by January 2007, the 75 wind energy generator towers in the largest park in Latin America are expected to be working, ensuring energy for 650,000 people.

The first 25 wind energy generator towers – of a total of 75 to form the three plants of the Wind Energy Park in Rio Grande do Sul – already have an Operating License emitted by the State Foundation for Environmental Protection Henrique Luis Roessler (Fepam).

It is the same case as with the transmission line of 230 kilowatts (KW) which totals 8.44 meters in extension.
