Two Peruvian Pilots Killed in War Games Between Brazil and Neighbors

The Brazilian Air Force informed that Sunday Morning (August 20th), an aircraft A-37 from the Peruvian Air Force, had an accident after taking off from the International Airport Governador Jorge Teixeira, in Porto Velho in the state of Roraima in northern Brazil.

Two pilots died: Lieutenant-Colonel Michael Eduardo Quiroz Plefke and Major Aldo Emílio Consiglieri Muñoz.

The aircraft was flying to Anápolis city, in the state of Goiás, in order to participate in the CRUZEX Operation III. The Brazilian Air Force has already begun investigations to determine the causes of the accident.

Air Forces from six South American countries and France are participating in Brazil in the Cruzex III air exercise, which will extend until next September 2.

CRUZEX is a Multilateral Aerial Operation among the Air forces of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, France, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela that is taking place in the central eastern part of Brazil, including states of Goiás, Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais and Distrito Federal.

CRUZEX 2006 involves a double-action that include Blues Forces (Coalition Forces) against Red Forces (Opponents Forces) based on a conflict of low intensity under peace time criteria.

Invited Air forces will make up the Coalition Force in Blue country, against the Opponents Forces, headquartered in the Red country.

According to the Brazilian Air Force release in the established fictitious scenario, Redland and Yellowland have borders problems going back into history. Political and economical problems have worsened the situation and the armed forces of Redland march into Yellowland.

The United Nations Security Council votes the integration of a Coalition Force with Argentina, Chile, France, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela and Brazil, the Blue Country acting as leader.

The coalition has been mandated to expel the Red Forces of the Yellow territory and to restore international law and peace among the two nations in conflict.

In related news Peru last week incorporated a new missile Luppo Type frigates, which is the third of four units purchased to Italy in 2004.

The frigate was named Bolognesi after the Peruvian military hero from the Pacific war of 1883 which was won by Chile.

President Alan Garcia present at the ceremony in El Callao naval base said that Peru historically has been a peaceful country but "needs Armed Forces to dissuade any threat to its liberty or sovereignty".

Apparently the Italian frigates originally had been ordered by Saddam Hussein for the Iraqi Navy.
