Brazil’s Embraer Lowers 2006 Forecast: 135 Jets and Not 145 Will Be Delivered

Embraer, a Brazilian aircraft manufacturer, delivered 30 airplanes in the third quarter of this year, being 22 commercial and eight executive jets. In the period between January and September, a total of 93 aircraft were delivered.

The company also disclosed that its order portfolio reached US$ 13.3 billion at the end of the third quarter, 29% more than the total registered at the end of the second quarter of 2006.

According to the company, between the months of July and September, 137 commercial aircraft and "a significant number" of executive jets were ordered.

Embraer, however, is not going to reach its forecast of delivering 145 jets this year. A total of 135 will be delivered due to "difficulties found in increasing the production of the Embraer 190 and Embraer 195 lines of aircraft, especially with regard to the assembly of the wings and to delays in the supply chain," according to a company statement.

The Brazilian aircraft maker has already taken "adequate measures" to overcome such difficulties and compensate the delay, and next year a total of 160 aircraft should be delivered, against the 150 forecasted before.

Embraer announced this week that North American airline Northwest Airlines has ordered 36 units of the Embraer 175, each aircraft configured to seat 76 passengers.
