Brazil Gets Independent Pricing Report for Its Ethanol

ICIS pricing, the world’s largest information provider for the chemical and oil industry, has added two new reports to its global portfolio of biofuels price and market intelligence reports – Biodiesel (USA) and Ethanol (Latin America).

"With various federal and state initiatives designed to promote the production and use of biodiesel and production booming from 500,000 gallons in 1999 to 75 million gallons in 2005, we knew it was time to start reporting on the US Biodiesel market", says Judith Taylor, Senior Editor at ICIS pricing.

Speaking on the launch of the Ethanol (Latin America) report, William Lemos, Markets Reporter at ICIS pricing said, "With Brazilian supplies of ethanol forecast to rise from 16 million m³ in 2005 to 20.5 million m³ by 2010 and domestic and export demand growing at equally impressive rates, it is imperative that local and international markets have accurate and independent price assessments on which trade can be based. The new report has been warmly received by producers, traders and shippers of ethanol in central and southern Brazil."

The US Biodiesel report will give two accurate and independent weekly domestic price assessments – B100 FOB Midwest and B100 FOB Texas. The Latin America Ethanol report will give four assessments – Anhydrous FOB São Paulo (domestic) and Santos (export) and Hydrous FOB São Paulo (domestic) and Santos (export).

Both reports will also offer incisive market intelligence on demand and supply, market commentary covering legislation, financial incentives, production news, new plant capacities and invaluable insight and analysis of global markets.

According to Simon Platt, ICIS Global Product Development Manager, "Now that we are seeing increased liquidity in these markets, ICIS pricing is in a position to provide accurate and independent price assessments. The biofuels market is of significant strategic importance to ICIS and we will be launching more new services in the coming months."

ICIS pricing has developed a global portfolio of biofuels reports, with Ethanol reports in Europe, the USA, Asia and Latin America, Biodiesel reports in Europe and the USA and an ETBE (Ethyl Tertiary Butyl Ether) report in Europe.

Biodiesel is a clean-burning diesel replacement fuel that is manufactured from renewable sources such as virgin vegetable oils. Brazilian Ethanol is derived from sugarcane and is produced in two forms; Anhydrous, which is blended with gasoline and is commonly used in Brazil and Hydrous, which is used pure as a fuel.

ICIS pricing is an independent pricing and market intelligence service from International Chemical Information Service (ICIS) that aims to provide petrochemical and oil markets with reports published daily, weekly or monthly on more than 120 commodities.

This pricing information is gathered by teams of experienced reporters in London, Houston, Singapore and Shanghai to offer up-to-the minute independent market information.

ICIS is part of Reed Business Information (RBI), a division of Reed Business and a member of Reed Elsevier plc, the world’s leading publisher and information provider.

RBI publishes more than 100 market leading publications, directories and online services, as well as organizing many industry conferences.

The RBI portfolio includes Computer Weekly, Caterer & Hotelkeeper, Commercial Motor, Community Care, Estates Gazette, Farmers Weekly, Flight International, New Scientist, Travel Weekly, Totaljobs.com, Caterer.com, CWJobs, Estates Gazette Interactive (EGi), ATI (Air Transport Intelligence), ICIS, Kellysearch, Kompass UK, and Bankers’ Almanac.
