Sugar and Alcohol Help Brazil Agro Exports Reach Record US$ 41 Billion

Brazilian agribusiness exports reached US$ 48.2 billion in the last 12 months, a value 14.5% greater than in the same period last year. The surplus was US$ 41.9 billion, according to figures supplied by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply.

The sectors that contributed the most to the good performance were sugar and alcohol, forestry products, soy and soy products, tobacco, cereals, flour and its concoctions, leather and leather products, meats, coffee and fruit juices. National agribusiness products were sold in over 210 countries.

Between January and October this year, sector exports totaled US$ 40.8 billion, a historic record for the period and 13% over the value exported in the same months in 2005. Agribusiness exports in October totaled US$ 4.839 billion, an increase of 29.8% when compared to the same period last year.

Braskem

Braskem, the Brazilian petrochemical company that is the leader in thermoplastic resins in Latin America, had net revenues of US$ 396 million with exports in the third quarter of this year,

14% more than the US$ 348 million obtained in the previous three months. In the nine first months of this year, exports reached US$ 1 billion, a little over the value for 2005.

In the quarter, the company registered net revenues of 3.3 billion reais (US$ 1.5 billion), presenting growth de 16% over the second quarter of the year, and 13% when compared to the same period in 2005.

Braskem has 14 industrial plants in Brazil and produces 6 million tons of thermoplastic and other petrochemical resins per year.
