Iraqi President Welcomes in Baghdad New Brazilian Ambassador

Bernardo de Azevedo Brito, the new Brazilian ambassador to Iraq, presented his credentials, Tuesday, December 19, in Baghdad, to Iraqi President, Jalal Talabani. The information was disclosed by the Itamaraty, Brazil’s Foreign Ministry.

According to the Brazilian Foreign Ministry, during the meeting, Talabani spoke of the importance of the relations between his country and Brazil, and stated that he is satisfied with the gradual reactivation process of Brazilian diplomatic representation in Iraq.

According to the Itamaraty, the process began with the creation of an Office for Iraqi Affairs at the Brazilian Embassy in Amman, Jordan. Azevedo is living temporarily in the Jordanian capital.

The Itamaraty has also informed that the president of Iraq expressed his wish of receiving commercial missions from Brazil, and expects Brazil to participate in his country’s reconstruction process.

Talabani also recalled that he attended the Summit of South American – Arab Countries (Aspa), held last year in Brasí­lia (the capital city of Brazil). It was his first participation at an international event after he assumed the presidency.
