Brazilian Exports Fall Close to 4% and Imports 5%

Brazil exports oranges Exports from Brazil in June decreased 3.87% when compared to May but was still the second best turnover this year, with US$ 13.11 billion in sales, whereas imports totalled US$ 9.3 billion, which is 4.87% less than recorded in the previous month.

The turnover resulted in a trade balance (exports minus imports) of US$ 3.816 billion last month, a 1.34% reduction compared with the balance for May, and a 6.86% decrease over June, 2006.

In the accumulated result for the first half of 2007, the trade balance recorded a surplus of US$ 20,66 billion, an increase of 5.71% over the same period of 2006.

Exports from January to June total US$ 73.21 billion, a 19.91% increase compared with the first half of 2006. In the same period, imports reached US$ 52.55 billion, a 26.6% increase. During the last 12 months (July/2006 to June/2007), the trade balance reached US$ 47.59 billion.

The trade balance data for June were released this morning by the Development, Industry and Foreign Trade Ministry Trade, on their web page at www.desenvolvimento.gov.br. More details dealing with product flows and countries involved should be released later in the day during an interview with the Brazilian secretary of Foreign Trade, Armando Mezi
