Muiza’s Fitting Tribute to Brazilian Music Legend Moacir Santos

Muiza Adnet sings Moacir Santos At the time of his passing in August 2006 at 80 years of age,  Brazilian-born Moacir Santos had gained the respect of his peers even though he did not exactly become a household name like contemporaries Antonio Carlos Jobim or Edu Lobo, who were among the developers of the bossa nova movement that conquered the international market in the early 60s.

On this CD , Brazilian singer Muiza Adnet is joined by her brother, producer and guitarist Mário Adnet, to pay living tribute to the master, who was still among us at the time of the recording (he cheerfully duets with Adnet in a handful of tracks), which chronicles his storied career.

Adnet's deep voice fits the songs perfectly – one of the highlights is the English-language "April Time," which begins with a scat from Santos that guides the entire arrangement.

Mário Adnet plays electric guitar with the same syncopated beat, and in the middle section the tune briefly converts into a regular samba beat for an accomplished piano solo by Gabriel Geszti.

Singer Ivan Lins, who is somewhat of an icon in the Brazilian jazz scene  guests on "Tomorrow Is Mine", which also features a great accordion solo by Marcos Nimrichter, and Milton Nascimento lends his unmistakable soulful voice to the heartfelt "A Santinha Lá da Serra"(The Saint From The Mountain), a rare Santos contribution with poet Vinicius de Morais, better known stateside for his partnership with Jobim (he co-wrote "The Girl From Ipanema.")

Listen also to "Marchinha dos Santos Glória" (March of The Saints Glory", where Adnet sings the wordless vocals with incredible gusto.

Muiza Adnet sings Moacir Santos is a journey in musical discovery, both for the content on the disc and also for the rich sounds it contains, thanks to the creative arrangements of Mário Adnet and the musicians present on the disc.

This is a disc that will please both fans of Brazilian music and jazz aficionados alike. Repeated listenings are strongly recommended.
