Brazil Invites World to Make Tourism Money in the Northeast

Beach in Brazilian Northeast It ends today, May 30, in the northeastern Brazilian state of Pernambuco the Nordeste Invest seminar, a tourist investment and real estate event that is counting on over 50 speakers from Brazil and from overseas.

Among the presents is the executive director at Nakheel Investment Projects, Robert Lee. The company works in real estate development in the United Arab Emirates. He is going to speak about Dubai's experience as a global tourist destination.

The Arab company, which belongs to state-owned holding Dubai World, is responsible for some of the main real estate projects in the Emirates. Among them is the construction of artificial islands The Palm, in the shape of a palm tree, and The World, in the shape of a world map. The group, which employs 1,800 people, counts on 16 large projects in the country, evaluated at US$ 60 billion.

The objective of Nordest Invest is to show the investment opportunities in the region and to expand the network of relations between national and international businesses.

The event, which should also include business roundtables between 25 foreign investors and 48 Brazilian companies, is promoted by the Real Estate and Tourist Development Association of the Northeast (Adit Nordeste) in partnership with the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil).

Last year, in the second edition of the event, the companies participating in the project attracted US$ 187.8 million in foreign investment for enterprises like resorts, hotels, apartments and houses.

Deals for US$ 28.34 million were closed for the export of services. In this latest edition, investors from Portugal, Spain, England, Germany, Ireland and Panama are also participating.

Among the themes covered at the conference are the Brazilian economic scene and the impact in tourism and in the real-estate market, the new development model – real estate boosting tourism, how to develop a high-end sustainable tourist destination, residential tourism in Brazil and investment perspectives in infrastructure in the Northeast as well as what to do to make the Northeast into a luxury tourist destination, among others.

The Brazilian Northeast includes the states of Alagoas, Bahia, Ceará, Maranhão, Paraí­ba, Pernambuco, Piauí­, Rio Grande do Norte and Sergipe. The area has been prominent as one of the best destinations for the development of tourist and real-estate enterprises due to its white sand, blue sea and natural pools. The region covers an area of approximately 1.55 million square kilometers, with 3,300 kilometers of beaches.

The Gross Domestic Product of the Northeast is US$ 95 billion and its population is over 50 million inhabitants, almost 30% of the national population.
