New and Old Wells Get Brazil Record Oil Production Boost

Petrobras's Manati field in Bahia, northeastern Brazil Petrobras, Brazil's government-controlled oil and gas corporation, set a new monthly oil production record in Brazil in June: 1,867,000 barrels per day (bpd). This was 12,600 bpd higher than the previous record from last December with 1,855,000 bpd.

According to a release from Petrobras the new record is 4.2% higher than last year's average production, 1,792,000 bpd, and 0.7% over the previous month's average 1,854,000 bpd.

The greater volume of production was achieved from new wells going in line interconnected to platforms P-52 and P-54 – installed in the Roncador field, in the Campos Basin – and to the Piranema platform, in the sea of Sergipe. Other wells also began production in the Albacora, Albacora Leste, and Marlim fields, in the Campos Basin.

Petrobras also points out that there was a good performance in fields located in mature areas to the north and northeast of Brazil and in the state of Espírito Santo, in southeastern Brazil. In spite of declining production in the past, these fields have reached significant operating upturns thanks to "revitalization efforts", reported Petrobras.

Petrobras also managed a good performance in natural gas production during the second quarter which soared to a daily supply of 32.4 million cubic meters, from 23.8 million cubic meters a year ago representing a 36% increase.

Gas production was boosted with significant volumes from the Manati, Bahia, field and anticipated gas pumping from Peroá, in Espírito Santo. Another highlight was the gas utilization anticipation at platforms P-52 and P-54, in the Roncador field, Campos Basin.
