3.2 Million Foreigners Visit Brazil in First Half, a 2.7% Boost

Brazil's Copacabana Palace in Rio In the first half of the year, 3,205,562 people arrived in Brazil on international flights, representing an increase of 2.67% over the same period last year. If only regular flights are considered, the growth was 5.66%. This information was disclosed by the Infraero.

In June, arrivals in Brazil on international flights totaled 466,160 passengers. To the president of the Brazilian Tourism Institute (Embratur), Jeanine Pires, the growth of arrivals on regular flights in the first half of the year is good news.

"It shows constant recovery in the number of arrivals on international flights, which is very good," she explains.

Apart from figures for regular flights, the calculation of international arrivals also considers non-regular (chartered) flights, which were responsible for 9,024 arrivals in June this year. The Infraero calculation also includes foreigners and Brazilians returning to the country.

From January to June, Infraero registered growth of 7.4% in the aircraft movement in São Paulo International Airport/Guarulhos in comparison with the same period last year.

Guarulhos led the movement in this period. In the first half of the year, there were 97,000 landings and takeoffs on the runways of the international terminal in São Paulo, 60,000 being for domestic flights and 37,000 international.

The month of January concentrated the highest number of operations in the half, with 17,359 flights. The first month of the year is traditionally the busiest due to the holiday season.

Currently, 40 national and international airlines regularly use the 260 check-in counters in both of the airport's terminals. It is from Guarulhos airport that flights arrive from and depart to 24 countries and 138 cities in Brazil and abroad and transport approximately 60,000 passengers a day.
