Domestic and International Flights Get Slight Increase in Brazil

Tam Brazilian Airline Brazil saw in April a 3.5% increase in international departures from Brazilian airports when compared to the same month last year. The figure was supplied by the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC). According to the agency, the occupation of international flights has also grown, from 66%, in April 2008, to 69% last month.

TAM was the airline that led international trips, with 86% participation in the market. TAM and Gol are the main airlines in the aviation market in Brazil. They answer to 99.86% of the international flight market.

There was also growth in domestic departures in Brazil in April, according to the ANAC, but at a lower proportion. They expanded by 2%. The occupation of the flights, however, dropped. They fell from 66% to 63%.

The study takes into consideration the number of passengers by the number of kilometers flown. On national routes, TAM and Gol concentrate 87.97% of the market.

TAM also maintained leadership in market share on national routes. The company ended the month with 49.2% participation in domestic flights, against 42.12% in April 2008. Gol posted a 46.44% reduction, to 38.77% from April 2008 to April this year. Webjet has 3.7% of the national market and Azul 3.62%.
