Construction Works in Brazil Up 13% to US$ 328 Billion

BuildingThe investment in Brazil on construction works was US$ 328 billion last year, according to figures disclosed by Informações Técnicas da Construção (ITCnet), a company that promotes research in the sector.

In total, 90 million square meters were built in the country. The growth in investment, as against the previous year, was 13%, or an added US$ 40.2 billion. In square meters, the area rose 32%.

Of the total invested, the majority – US$ 162 billion – went to industrial projects, in second place came works for trade and services – US$ 135 billion – and in the third place, residential units, with US$ 30.7 billion.

The industrial sectors that most invested in construction in Brazil in 2009 were energy, oil and oil products, the ferrous product sector and then agro-industry.

According to a study by ITCnet, 10,360 construction works were erected in the country last year. In 2008, the figure was 9,290. The region of Brazil in which there were most enterprises being raised was the Southeast, with 6,324 constructions, followed by the North and Northeast, with 1,799 initiatives. In the third place came the South, with 1,552 works and in fourth and last, the Midwest, with 685 enterprises.

The ITCnet has just given awards to companies in the building area at a ceremony at the headquarters of the São Paulo State Housing Syndicate (Secovi), in São Paulo.

The organizations that built most, developed most works in the industrial sector and were prominent in sustainable development, among others, were honored.

The real-estate company that built most in terms of square meters was Gafisa, which also owns Tenda and Fit. The second was Cyrela, a group that also includes Goldsztein, Andrade Mendonça and RJZCyrela.
