Latam’s Main Furniture Fair Opens in Brazil

Thirty foreign buyers from Latin America, Europe and the Middle East are participating in the 24th edition of the International Trade Fair for Furniture Exports and Sales (Fenavem), which began yesterday, August 1st and is going on up to Friday, August 5, in São Paulo, Brazil.

The presence of importers is part of the Buyer Project, for the incentive to Brazilian exports, organized by the Brazilian Export Promotion Agency (Apex).


Brazilian furniture exports presented a 19% increase in the first half, in relation to the same period last year. In 2004, the furniture sector exported US$ 940.5 million, representing a 42% increase over the sales of the previous year.


According to the event organization, the furniture sector includes over 32,000 companies from Brazil, of which 96% are micro and small companies and generate 450,000 jobs.


There are currently around 800 Brazilian companies exporting and the sector is responsible for 1% of the country Gross Domestic Product (GDP).


The event opening ceremony at the Anhembi Exhibition Pavilion, had the presence of the Brazil’s Minister of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, Luiz Fernando Furlan, of the president of the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (Fiesp), Paulo Skaf, and of the president of the Brazilian Furniture Industry Association (Abimóvel), Domingos Rigoni. The Fenavem is considered the main fair in the furniture sector in Latin America.
