After All These Years, Brazil’s Flora Keeps on Dazzling

Brazil's Flora Purim in Flora's SongFlora Purim is a foremost Brazilian singer of international acclaim, and who has been one of the main figures of the jazz fusion and Brazilian music international scene. She continues to please her fans with many good surprises.

Flora not only has the voice and an incredible track record, but the finesse for musicians’ choice, arrangements and repertoire. Her latest release is a good example of it.

Flora Purim’s latest is the titled Flora’s Song on Narada Jazz.

About the choice of musicians Flora says, “The musicians were chosen with the same care as one would choose a craftsman to construct the navigation instruments of a ship.”

When we look at the line up we understand what she means: Dori Caymmi; George Duke; Mark Egan; Andy Narell; Airto Moreira.

Flora has always been in search of and has experimented with sounds. On this release she brought in the steel drum sound of the Andy Narell, adding a Caribbean flair to some tunes.

Flora’s Song  is a personal and intimate experience. From the classic Brazilian tune “í‰ Preciso Perdoar” to Ivan Lins’ “Anjo de Mim” to “Las Olas” by Jaco Pastorius and lyrics by Flora and Dianna Booker, and the title track by Flora herself.

For those collecting good music, Flora’s latest should certainly be added to your A list. Flora’s Song is as soothing as it comes…
