A New Low in Brazil: Only 31% Are Happy with Government’s Job

Brazil’s latest Sensus Institute/National Transportation Confederation (CNT) public opinion poll on the government shows that Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s approval ratings have reached new lows.

In November, 44.2% of those interviewed said they had a negative opinion of the president’s performance (that is up from 39.4% in September).

However, the percentage saying they thought the president’s performance was positive remained slightly higher at 46.7% (down from 50% in September). And 31.1% said they approved of the government’s performance.

The Sensus/CNT polls since July have shown a steady rise in negative and a drop in positive ratings for the president and his govenment. However, in the latest poll the rate of the rise and drop of the numbers has been less than in other months.

The survey was conducted between November 14 and 17, interviewing 2,000 people in 24 states. The poll has an error margin of give or take 3 percentage points.
