Brazil Pledges US$ 1 Million to Help Rebuild Lebanon

Celso Amorim, Brazil's minister of Foreign Relations, will participate this Thursday, January 25, in the International Conference for Lebanon (Paris III), to be held in Paris.

According to information provided by the Itamaraty (Brazilian Foreign Office), during the event, the foreign minister will announce an additional US$ 1 million in Brazilian projects for rebuilding Lebanon.

Brazil had already announced a US$ 500,000 voluntary contribution to emergency actions during the International Donors Conference for Lebanon, held in Stockholm, Sweden on August 31st last year.

Afterwards, the Brazilian government sent a multidisciplinary mission to the Arab country to promote cooperation in fields such as agriculture, health, education, professional training and the banking sector. Members of the mission included the director of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, Mustapha Abdouni.

The Paris conference is an initiative of the French government, and Brazil was the only Latin American country invited.

According to the Itamaraty, Amorim will "reiterate Brazil's firm commitment to do whatever it can to help recover and rebuild Lebanon, from where a significant share of our population comes from."

Amorim visited the Arab country on August 15th, immediately after the end of the Israeli attacks.
