Rags To Riches Gambling Stories That Really Happened

Professional gambling can be extremely lucrative for those that put in the work. Check out professional gamblers rated as the most successful in history.

Professional Gambling Rags To Riches Stories

Everyone dreams of transcending their current situation, getting loads of cash, and officially being able to call themselves rich. For most the dream will never happen, while others will still be chasing the dream on their death bed. The people we’re about to talk about not only managed to achieve the dream, they did it through professional gambling.

Of course, we’re not suggesting you drop everything and become a professional gambler. What we are suggesting is that with the right approach, smart money skills, and plenty of practice gambling can become a lucrative hobby.

These are some of the most successful gamblers that started out poor.

Vanessa Selbst

It is difficult to express just how successful a professional Poker player Vanessa Selbst is. She officially started playing at the age of 18, though wouldn’t start earning big until later in her life. She is now ranked amongst the greatest players in history, having managed to rake in just under $12 million in her career.

This includes 3 World Series Of Poker (WSOP) bracelets, 8 final tables, and 20 big money finishes. She even represented Team PokerStars Pro. Most fascinating of all is that Vanessa started out with little to her name except a love for Poker.

Billy Walters

There isn’t much about Billy Walters that isn’t already known, with him widely being referred to as The King Of Las Vegas. Not bad for someone that grew up in a house with no running water or indoor plumbing. His career is long and fascinating, with plenty of examples of incredible dedication, strong work ethics, and smart investments.

A large part of his now $100 million fortune is built on the back of professional sports betting.

Chris Moneymaker

What makes Chris Moneymaker so fascinating is that he managed incredible success while starting at an online gambling casino. The now legendary story involves Chris qualifying for the WSOP through a modest $40 online event. He then went on to win the WSOP Main Event in 2003, despite the fact that he had never even played in a major Poker event before. It almost defies belief that he conquered seasoned veterans, which just goes to show how unpredictable gambling can be.

Archie Karas

Of course, not all rags to riches gambling stories end well. As was just said, gambling can be very unpredictable, even when it is approached professionally. Archie Karas is often referred to as having the longest documented winning streak in history.

If his winning streak is true or exaggerated is a topic of debate, but what is true is that Archie arrived in Las Vegas with $50. He then managed to turn a $50,000 loan into around $40 million. All of this was done in just a few years, between 1992 and 1995. If the story ended there it would truly have been something incredible, only the $40 million was eventually all lost again. Archie declared bankruptcy, making this a rags to riches to rags story.
