The US Treacherous Roads for Illegal Brazilian Immigrants PDF Print E-mail

Brazilian Day in New York Pedro Lima, a house painter from Brazil who has been in the United States for nine years, removes his hat as he enters the room. Pressing his thick, hard-worked hands into his pockets, he speaks tentatively, but with passion. He lives in New York and must drive in order to work, he says, "in this country that we love so much, America."

Illegal means Illegal.
"Underneath and often silenced by the political clamor are the stories of people like Lima, whose lives would be transformed by the ability to drive legally". If Lima wasn't in the USA illegally she could get a driver's license. What a concept..

In these places, Ortega says, "You have to drive to get anywhere, so your livelihood depends on the process of driving - that's basic. So when you don't have a driver's license you are putting yourself at risk every day just to make a living." This is rich, what about all the other people on the road, your also putting them at risk. So you should be rewarded for breaking the law in the first place? Where does it stop? Like the taxpayers to buy you a new car and home also as a reward for breaking the laws of the country you love?

This is the killer! "Despite years of waiting and watching the doors to documentation slam shut, many undocumented immigrants are tiring of the struggle. Shrugging his shoulders and taking a sip of his espresso, Agnaldo dos Santos, a construction worker who has been in the U.S. ten years shakes his head, "immigrants here just never get a turn," he says.
Okay, you are here 10 years, undocumented, tired of the struggle, and you never get a turn?? You have been breaking the law for 10 years and your not in jail nor have you been deported. I would say you have had a HUGE "turn".

I do believe the doors should be open for all of you illegals, but first should come the fine $50,000 to $100,000 for breaking the law.

I would have appreciated you more if you had written an article about the law abiding Brazilian drivers who got their driving licenses before 1998 and to renew last year, they were forced to attend a driving school again for a week.

However, you seem to make a big issue of the harassment the illegal aliens face to get their license in U.S. Honestly speaking, it does not make any sense to me.

Try again to write a decent article about honest Brazilian tax payers and we would certainly appreciate it. After all, you have a famous last name, don't you?

"Sometimes people, they get in accidents because of that, because they are scared of everything. Or if they get into an accident they are going to run, they are going to leave the person there. They are not going to call 911, because they know they would be in trouble not just because of being responsible for an accident, but because they didn't have a license," he said.

That's bulls**t! They get into accidents because they're completely accustomed to NOT obeying driving laws! And, they "hit and run" because the majority of the time they do the same thing in their own countries where they are 100% legal!

When she uses her Brazilian passport as a form of identification, she says that she is often treated differently by bouncers at bars, but felt lucky not to be harassed by the police the one time she was pulled over, as friends had been. "There is prejudice against us for being from the Third World," she said in Portuguese, "those of us that are here legally end up being wronged" by those who are illegal, she says.

Well who can blame the americans? You have 15-20 MILLION illegal immigrants in the country, Mexico and Brazil being huge abusers of the system, and then blame the americans for being fed up?

I find it hilarious when people start crying about "rights" they do not have in a country while being their ILLEGALLY!!! Can anyone else see the irony in this? Try coming to Brazil and invest $50,000 or more, you can't even get a bank account until one gets an RNE number which takes years!

Doesn't it dawn on people that if they went about the system in the correct, legal manner that they'd be able to get all the documentation they need? And if they can't get the documents they need to stay legally, then they need to go back to their country....that's only logical, isn't it? It's that way in Brazil, the U.S., the U.K., Canada, Australia, Japan, any country on the face of the planet. Why do people talk about the United States as if they should be different? The U.S. grants green cards, permanent visas, in larger numbers than any country on the face of the planet. Try coming to Brazil to live being a foreigner. You have 3 options, marry a brazilian, investors visa (minimum investment of 50,000 dollars), or a retirement visa (must show a monthly income of 2,500 dollars). Other than that you have a tourist visa which allows one to stay a MAXIMUM of 180 days per year. So you see, if you don't marry a brazilian, you MUST have money to live in Brazil. That is NOT the situation in the U.S. The U.S. is MORE leniant than countries like Brazil, and most other countries in the world, in respect to immigration. And yet people complain, they've been living in the coutry for decades....illegally, working, and sending everything they can BACK to their home country. And still they bitch, they're not getting their "turn". That is rich. Those that have abused the system have been being rewarded for decades now.....that is changing now, as it should've been all along.

You want to go to America? Fine, go through the process. Do it legally. For those that do you are more than welcome. For those that don't you should be able to understand that when the police catch you and deport you that it is normal......all over the world. Even in your home country!

I have been writing about the problem of the illegal immigrants for a few years, but in the last 2 years the problem has become a major crisis.

Not only illegal immigrants are having a hard time getting or renewing a drivers license, but various communities around the country started requiring that people proof that they are legal in the United States before they can rent an apartment or a house. And many states are also passing laws that if an illegal immigrant is caught working for a company, then the state is going to revoke the license of that company to operate on that state, in many cases putting the company out of business.

It has become a nightmare for illegal immigrants to stay in the United States, and thousands of illegal immigrants are returning to the countries from where they came from.

We have an exodus of Brazilians returning to Brazil right now, not only because of the difficulties that they are encountering here in the US regarding these issues, but thousands and thousands of illegal immigrants are returning to their countries because of the deteriorating economic situation here in the United States.

Here is a piece that I wrote 3 months ago and posted on the following forum:
By the way, my screen name on that forum is: SouthAmerica.

I Love Brazil

SouthAmerica: The New York Times published an article yesterday about this trend that has been going on for over a year.

I had mentioned about this exodus of Brazilians from the United States on this Forum many weeks ago.

Eventually the US mainstream media will realize that the exodus is not only of Brazilians but it is affecting many groups of immigrants - legal and illegal who came to the US various places.

The Legal and illegal immigrants in this case are like the canary in the coal mine - the legal and illegal immigrants are giving advance notice that the party it is over here in the United States.

Brazilians Giving Up Their American Dream
By NINA BERNSTEIN and ELIZABETH DWOSKIN
Published: December 4, 2007
The New York Times

Like hundreds of thousands of middle-class Brazilians who moved to the United States over the last two decades, Jose Osvandir Borges and his wife, Elisabeth, came on tourist visas and stayed as illegal immigrants, putting down roots in ways they never expected.

After packing up their plasma-screen TV, scholastic trophies and other fruits of 12 prosperous years in the Ironbound in Newark, the couple and their American-born daughter, Marianna, 10, were scheduled to fly back to Brazil for good this morning. They expect their son, Thiago, 21, to follow in a year or two, despite his reluctance to leave the only land that feels like home.

That decision to give up on life in the United States is being made by more and more Brazilians across the country, according to consular officials, travel agencies swamped by one-way ticket bookings, and community leaders in the neighborhoods that Brazilian immigrants have transformed, from Boston to Pompano Beach, Fla.

No one can say how many are leaving. But in the last half year, the reverse migration has become unmistakable among Brazilians in the United States, a population estimated at 1.1 million by Brazils government four to five times the official census figures.

In Massachusetts, says Fausto da Rocha, the founder of the Boston-area Brazilian Immigrant Center, his compatriots many here illegally are leaving by the thousands, some after losing homes in the subprime mortgage crisis. In New York and New Jersey, travel agents and others who sell airline seats say that one-way bookings to Brazil have more than doubled since last year, to about 150 daily from Kennedy International Airport, and that flights are sold out through February.

And at Brazils consulate in Miami, which serves Brazilians in five Southeastern states, officials said a recent survey of moving companies and travel agencies confirmed what they had already surmised from their foot traffic: More Brazilians are leaving the region than arriving the reversal of an upward curve that seemed unstoppable as recently as 2005, when Brazilians unable to meet tightened visa requirements were sneaking across the United States-Mexico border in record numbers.

I was 8 days over my visa in brazil was fined 294 reals , taken to the air port and made to pay the muta then put on a plane
and sent off ,
with a brasilian wife there and my boat .
not long the navy brazil took my boat as abadond with ever thing i owned , and it took me over a year to get my wife out of brazil the leagle way .
i lost over $500.000 to your country in there way doing ileagles

so i hope all ileagles get screw as bad as i did ,BUT that wont happen as even if you are ileagle in the US
you have rights
but not in all the countries that thies people come from

that is why people come to the US and stay as they are better off there than they are in there home land

if you are in the US get out now and go home and refile to come to the states , as when you are picked up it will be at least 10m
years before you can try again
and after the election the laws will change as the people of the US are fed up with there present form leadership
and are going to make a big change in the congress and senat to make the laws work for the people of the US not the other way around .

as like myself i am so tired of hearing ileagles demand rights from a country they have no right to be in
free food , medical , school , housing , and citisenship .

GO HOME AND MAKE YOU LAND AS SAFE AND FREE AS OURS USE TO BE .
try to fly a US flag in mexico or brazil , not going to happen , so why should it happen here .
DEMAND YOUR RIGHTS IN YOUR HOME LAND NOT HERE.
walk through your streets with the US flag damand the same thing you demand here
SEE HOW FAR YOU GET BEFORE YOU LEADERS SEND IN THE MILITARY

for al my soap box speach
i dont blame them for comming here i blame the US goverment
for not stoping it 20 years ago and making it easer for the working class people to enter the US
but no they just let in the rich college kids , crooked politicans , soap stars , who only bring
there money , but nothing to give back to the country .
let in brick layers , painters , farmers , let them send money home to there people
they are the ones that are redused to slave laubor in there home countries .
have a guest workers program , that works for all not just the rich .
not hard to do at all , work with out going on welfare , or using any public asstance .
dont have a record in your home land or ours , pledge alegence to the US and hold it dear to you keep your cluture at home
dont drage it out to the streets demand a brasilian or mexican day , declare a imigrant day prade and street fare then show your pride in the country you left ??????

join the military of the US fight for what we have fought for then you will see why we are the way we are
move out of the live in a bunch ,system and see the US for what it is , or was before our leaders bent us over and
widen our pockets to there benfit .

than you will be one of US the grate melting pot

"Despite years of waiting and watching the doors to documentation slam shut, many undocumented immigrants are tiring of the struggle " : why sugar coat it by saying " undocumented immigrants " ? You actually mean "illegal immigrants" . It is surprising to me that they would expect all the same services as legal taxpayers. I wonder how they have managed to procure bank accounts, buy homes, secure credit without the taxman being for more the wiser ? The Brazilian laws seem even tougher. In theory you need a CPF to do almost anything : have a bank account, buy a car etc.

So someone should be able to go to another country under false pretenses, break the law, and then gain all the benefits of those that went about the process the correct way?

Just because someone is "living" in a country doesn't mean he has been granted permission to live in that country. Millions upon millions apply for TOURIST visas and then simply never leave. That is not only illegal, but a case of deception. One cannot come to Brazil, the U.S., or any country on the planet to LIVE and arrive via a tourist visa. One cannot come to Brazil, or the U.S., or any country, but sneaking across it's borders, evading the police, buying/obtaining fake state and federal gov't. documents, then simply decide to overstay their legally alloted time by a decade or two. That's not how the system works.

The U.S. granted amnesty to several million illegals during the Reagan administration. We won't be granting that same type of amnesty to 15-20 million this time.....that's plain to see, and all the U.S. politicians are very aware of this. They will be held accountable on this issue this time. And for those that do not vote in sync with the will of those they represesent, they will be voted out. And they're very well aware of this.
The flip side
written by John Miller, March 07, 2008
This issue of illegal immigrants affects Brasil as well of course.
I work in the Telco sector in Brasil, and one of our major competitors who shall remain nameless was recently raided by Police Federal and discovered to have 45 people working illegally in the office on so called Tourist visas, many of which had expired. The company paid the fine, sent the 45 people back to Ch...a and then brought in a fresh group of people to work on the project.
And of course this is not limited to industry. I know many people who started life in Brasil on tourist visas, fell in love with the country and its people and culture, and started out teaching english or other informal education work. And then over a period of time, managed to make themselves legitimate in terms of residency status by hook or crook; marriage, the infamous moratorium on illegal residents in 1998-9 that enabled many illegals to move across to legitimate residency status, etc.
Who would want?
written by Whocares?, March 07, 2008
The real question is, who would want to live in Brazil in 2008 anyway? There is no chance to make any decent money there. The standard of living is so low that it is a world wide embarrasment. How about before Brazil starts to let in thousands of middle eastern terriorists (like it is currently doing) it wakes up and trys to feed some of the people who are currently starving in the favelas!!??

That's all fine and well. But riddle me this, if 15-20 million of these types of people entered the country in this manner, took jobs away from brazilians, their children took the chairs of brazilian children leaving them to commute to other locales to go to school, started receiving gov't. assistance in the form of education, medical, and social, and every now and again millions took to the streets in numerous brazilian capitols throughout the country burning the brazilian flag and waving the flag of their home countries......exactly how many do you think we die?

And do you think the brazilian military police would protect them in their "right" to free speech while protesting?

How are illegals treated in Brazil ?
- Can they open a banking account ? Of course...NOT ! In American illegals can !
- Can illegals buy a car or pass there driving licence ? Of course...NOT ? In America illegals can buy a car but not pass their driving licence....meaning they had to have it before entering.
- Can the children of illegals go in school ? Of course....NOT ! In America they can.
I could continue for hours...if you wish !

Stupid question :
- Why are Brazilians ALWAYS complaining of how things are abroad....WHEN IT IS NOT ANY DIFFERENT IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY...AND USUALLY FAR WORSE ????
- Why should OTHERS always pay for Brazilians, and Brazilians never pay FOR OTHERS ????

Lets face it :
- Brazilians have no idea of what RECIPROCITY means and have no intention to ever learn the meaning or applying it !!!!
- You expect to have rights that you are not willing to provide to others.

You are simply a bunch of crooks and thieves with no morality !!!!
You have always a ONE WAY vision ! When you can steal OR GET something from others !

So it appears what I have told you becomes clear, no? Now we see war exported to Latin America, US economy in crisis, and all eyes turning south.
What will you do with all the worthless dollars coming to you? Of course, many other currencies are coming your way. Maybe you will give up the Real and go with the Bolivar, eh?(smile)

Our central bank has not been as obsessed as yours......to buy the US$.!!!!!
65 % of your foreign currencies reserves are.....in worthless US$ paper.
Thus Your question should be asked to Your idiot Meireiles...not to me.
Yessssss.....what is he going to do to ?

As to our central bank, sorry but we have only 20 % in the US$, 50 % in the Euro....and 30 % in....GOLD !!!!!
These are of course approximate ratios, not changing by much over time.

Guess who is making profits and was and remain the smartest !!!!

I just remind you, once more, that Noooooo currencies in the world has been stronger than the Swiss Franc.....in the last 100 years.

Britsh Pound ? Well all idiots Englishes believe they have a strong currency. But their currency is down over 80 per cent...in the last 40 years.
The Euro did not exist then, but all their local currencies went also down more than 80 % or more....in 40 years.
The strongest....was the DM...but still lost value against the CHF !

Why are we so good ? Simple :
- we keep 20 % plus....in gold....ALL THE TIME. Thus when the US$ is weak....gold price goes up. And just the reverse when
the US$ goes up !
- The EU share of our trade represents 50 %. Therefore we keep around the same percentage in the Euro.

Most years, our central bank makes a LARGE profit.
Listen to that one....now :
- 50 % of the profits are given to the Federal Government.
- 50 % of the profits are given to the various States Government on a prorata basis of their population.

Not bad ! Isnt it !

Thus we are just laughing against the emerging countries who amassed Thouands millions of US$.

On a lighter note : Bank Itau is opening....A SWISS BANK !!!!!!!!

Lloyd, you are right .The first shots have been fired and it is so obvious that it is a fight between U.S and E.U. and we are right in the midst of it.Not many people realize it, though. If you read the comments of certain individual from Switzerland, you would immediately realize that Switzerland wants to remain neutral (at the same time making more money at the cost of the oppressed masses of the world).

However, let me assure you that it is not going to work this time. Switzerland will be gobbled up by us ( I mean the Bilderberg group) and we will force them to take sides. All the pieces are placed in the right places on the global chess game and Europe will be defeated ultimately.

I only hope that Col.Chavez does not get cold feet at the last moment and seeks asylum in Switzerland (which the money orientated, heartless and caudilho fellow blogger from Geneva is fully capable of granting)

State lawmakers around the country are proposing hundreds of bills this year aimed at curbing illegal immigration, but experts say the cost and public opposition will keep many from becoming law.

Lawmakers in at least eight states are now sponsoring legislation similar to Oklahoma, which last May passed the nation's most comprehensive anti-immigration law.

It restricts illegal immigrants' access to driver's licenses and other IDs, limits public benefits, penalizes employers who hire them and boosts ties between local police and federal immigration authorities.
Story continues below ↓advertisement

The bills are among more than 350 immigration-related proposals unveiled in state legislatures in the first two months of this year, according to a count by The Associated Press.

Sharma Hammond, staff attorney for the legal arm of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, believes states have been galvanized by the collapse two years running of a congressional solution.

"They feel like they have to take it into their own hands because the federal government is doing nothing," said Hammond, whose group helps states write the comprehensive bills and favors a freeze on nearly all immigration.

But it's questionable how many of the bills will become law. Many quickly lose momentum after they're introduced.

Out of more than 100 bills dealing with illegal immigration in the Virginia statehouse, only a few minor ones were likely to pass as the session was scheduled to end Saturday.

In Florida, lawmakers have proposed nearly a dozen bills targeting illegal immigration since January. But at a recent press conference at the state capitol, only two of the bills' backers showed. None of the state House leadership has offered support.

"People are still trying to keep this alive and get the federal government to pass something," said Ann Morse of the National Conference of State Legislatures, which tracks the bills. "But now that the legislation is introduced, states are wondering is this something we need to do right now, or do we need to study it more."

Morse thinks the new comprehensive bills are partly a tool to draw public attention to the issue, especially in an election year. She noted they tend to come with official titles such as "Taxpayer and Citizen Protection Act."

Legal and financial woes
Last year, more than 1,500 anti-illegal immigrant laws were proposed nationwide, with nearly 250 passing, according to a count by the National Conference of State Legislatures. And some of that legislation is now creating legal and financial trouble for state governments.

The Oklahoma law still faces a legal challenge by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. In Colorado, a proposal to boost the state's immigration enforcement unit may be doomed by its $3.9 million price tag.

Although the University of Arizona saved roughly $70,000 last year by identifying illegal immigrants who are ineligible for in-state tuition under a new law, it estimates the annual cost of identifying such students will be equal if not greater than the savings.

John Trasvina, president and general counsel of the Mexican-American Legal Defense and Education Fund, said despite the flurry of new bills, he believes anti-immigrant sentiment is starting to cool somewhat.

'No longer a free ride'
In part, states may be responding to a national shift, with immigration taking a back seat to the economy and the war in Iraq. All three of the major presidential candidates support a comprehensive immigration law that would eventually legalize many of the country's 12 million illegal immigrants.

"States are finding it's costing them a lot of money," Trasvina said. "It's no longer a free ride, a quick press release."

Maryland Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller summed up the perspective of a number of state legislatures.

"I don't think that the votes are there to pass a bill in terms of changing the status of immigrants in the state," Miller said. "That means not punitively and not to give them any form of tax advantages either."

The one bill likely to pass in Maryland this year: a study of the effects of immigration.

You said: “I did not know that your ex-boss Helio Costa now belongs to PMDB. I thought he had switched over from Arena to PT!!”

I was not sure which political party Helio Costa belonged – anyway his political career was backed by the Marinho family. (Globo TV)

I believe PMDB is the party of my friend former president Jose Sarney.

To keep infected areas under control, add plenty of bleach, which may burn initially but kills the annoyance.

For many, herpes can mean a time of confusion, anger, fear and frustration. Follow the above recommendations when dealing with the sensitive aspects of herpes infection.

SO NOT ONLY ARE THEY ILEGIAL ALLENS THEY ARE CRIMINALS. THEY CAN DESTROY THOUSANS OF PEOPLES PROPERTY AND EVEN PUT PEOPLE IN A HOSPITAL, WHAT WILL HAPPEN THEY MAY BE SENT HOME. I SAY MAKE ILEGIAL PRESENCE IN THE USA A 20 YEAR JAIL SENTENCE. NOT IN OUR COUNTRY CLUB PRISIONS, HOW ABOUT IN A CONTRACT PRISION SAY IN TURKEY. WONDER HOW MANY ILLEGIALS WE WOUD HAVE THEN.

Many years ago when I stayed in Las Vegas, I stopped in at a church having Mass where the Priest was saying that no longer in the United States is driving or drivers license just an additional privilege but it is all to often a need now for many Americans to survive. He was saying that social attitudes and legislation needs to evolve to the new reality in the United States. Of course this is not a little bit due to the ever increasing urban sprawl problem. There are lots of U.S. citizens in central cities that have their drivers license suspended - for right or wrong.
I'd like to know...
written by bo, March 09, 2008
how does someone wrongly have his drivers license suspended? Too many traffic violations? (speeding, wreckless driving) DUI's? I've yet to hear in my lifetime someone that had their drivers license suspended and did nothing to warrant it.

And isn't it only logical that people residing in any country illegally shouldn't have the legal right to drive in said country?

And Brazil wonders why they get a bad rap internationally.

how childish this situation with them refusing entrance to numerous europeans makes them appear? Yesterday they refused a spanish guy because he didn't have a return ticket as of yet? They refused others a day or two ago because they said they didn't have "sufficient" enough cash on them? I know for a fact, that numerous foreigners come here with their debit or credit cards and only take the cash that they need from cash machines. It's much better than flying into brazil with thousands of reais in your pocket.

There may be a case or two, imo, that are legitimate and they shouldn't let the people in. But it certainly appears that this is only a "tit for tat", kneejerk, childish response, once again, but the brazilian federal gov't.

Brazil should take into consideration all of the illegal brazilians that exist in other countries....there are millions.

bo it is harder to get money from a debit card than a person carring cash .

you know the little bite the cops want when you drive ,
the beach cops looking for the quick meal or beer money from the gringo .

we all should make it a law that when you enter a country that you have at least $200 cash a day for every person in your party per day you plan to spend in that country shown on your return ticket .
how many brasilians could do that .

try comming to brasil by pravite boat
they come on board take pictures of all your stuff when you check in and give you this big lecture on selling any of the stuff you have on your boat for money as you would be fined and have to pay import tax on said equipment .
then you have to show charts of brasil coast and your ships papers and a captians papers
I had sea map on my computer and they still did try to make me buy new charts from brasil .
mine were made by NOAO in 1999 and the ones they were selling were made by brasilian navy in 1986

Dudu had a traumatic experience while he was living in Germany as a young kid and he had narrated it in this site. Forrest had a traumatic experience in PE losing his beloved Roamdeep, but later he married a fine Brazilian lady. Forrest has plenty to contribute to Brasil and so does Dudu.

I don't like to see my good friends quarreling and so please stop doing it. Really Forrest, you have to visit MS. Please do remember that there are plenty of traditionally well off folks in Brasil who are trying to improve the lives of ordinary fellow citizens, without the government handout. I bet Dudu is one of them.

Benefit of the Doubt
written by Simpleton, March 14, 2008
Although it seemed pretty clear, maybe pete h. wasn't just being totally ... No, pete, it's not the way of those in the EUA legally to "fleece" and thence "invest" in Brasil. They do from time to time take care to their families there (while typically living a heck of a lot higher a life than those back home) - but this common both with those legally and illegally in the EUA regardless of where they were originally from.

The situation / information regarding a more or less permanant change going that way (which you started with before seeming press towards being ...), is reasonably / readily available. Short and sweet in Gringo-ese you either 1) Marry a Brasileiro legally while down there, 2) Fazer uma crianca Brasileiro and assume all responsibility / control / care for same, 3) retire with a pension guaranteeing US$2000 (or is it now US$2500?) per month for life to be transfered into the country, 4) form a new business with a brasillian partner / general manager / grant legal power of attorney to same with an externally derived investment of US$50,000 (which will only get you 5 years renewable or until your partner / attorney there wipes you out). Although this is not entirely inconsistent with most transnational transitions - I know how it feels being barred from Meu Pais. Not certain what your stat is but for me 1) is out of the question. 2) my wife won't agree to. 3) is so far down the line it would be better to plan on dying here and 4) takes a heck of a lot more money / balls than us middle of the road types with other obligations would surrender.

That criminals are put to an inconvenience

What idiocy that Grigorio thinks human beings and human existence can be "criminalized".

I guess some people just can't think for themselves.
Well...

This is almost like criminals protesting against pepper-spray. If you came here illegally, what do you expect, "jeitinho" just for you? If you were Mexican, you can do whatever you want because here in the U.S. everyone looks the other way and Mexicans do whatever they want. Now, let's imagine that Argentinians came to Brazil and did what these illegals are trying to do, what would Lula do? First, they wouldn't be able to get jobs and second, they'd be turned into the Policia Federal and deported. Illegal immigrants think this country is the f'ing casa da sogra where they can come and do whatever they want. Wrong. Illegal immigration is a burden that costs us money. Lots of money. In california it costs over 1.5 Billion dollars to educate the children of illegal immigrants and their stupid taxes that they pay barely covers school lunch! Illegal is just that illegal. If the s* hits the fan and illegals get desperate, just find some nerdy looking American guy who has no chance at a real American girlfriend and marry the poor sap. It's done all over the country. At least that way you're following the law via marriage. There are nerds everywhere looking for a sexy Brazilian girl to marry. Dont' miss the boat. Find and nerd. Get a green card.

Let's remember where we are! And Please do your research.

I think most of you and many American citizens forget that they all where immigrants too. WE ARE ALL IMMAGRANTS!!!. IIIEGAL OR NOT! I think all your back and forth comments would make the Founding Fathers of this beautiful country sick to their stomach. How hypocritical of people to judge others with out the knowledge of character when their grandparents and great grand parents most likely were welcomed with open arms. That goes to all creed and ethnic backgrounds. If we all stepped back and looked at how immigration to this country as created cities like NY, Miami and LA (modern day Mecca’s) I don’t think there’d be an issue. If illegals became legals they would then pay taxes, which would lessen the Burdon of taxes applied to US citizens and create larger markets. If you all did your research you’d know that Brazilians send over 235 billion dollars back to Brazil. Most of them doing so because of interest of going back to Brazil one day. The fact is if illegals had the opportunity to be legal in this country that number would be less than half. And we are just talking about Brazilians. Imagine the amounts for other ethnic illegals and how they generate. RESEARCH MULTICULTURAL MARKETS!! This beautiful country of hard working generations of immigrants has created a large number of spoiled selfish ignorant offspring. Which voted for a spoiled selfish ignorant president Twice!! So illegal immigrants can’t blame those who oppose them. How can’t you blame the stupid? I guess illegals have to one day talk over. And if you do your research, we will live to see it happen. Look it up!!

what a sob story. remember these are not immigrants they are perpetrating a crime.yes they are criminals and as such should not only be not driving a car here but also not working here. why is this so difficult for people to understand. immigrants are people who applied, waited and pay to be become legal here and are eagerly excepted this ones you whine about are not. end of story, my advice to the expresso sipper is get on a plane and take your hard earned tax free US dollars home and thank your lucky stars you are not rotting in jail like criminals do.

Undocumented Immigrant

Greetings,

I just read Ms Furlan article and I totally agree with her: I am a undocumented immigrant myself; I've been in the US for over 13 years (I came on a tourist visa and overstayed it) and fortunately I live in a state that doesn't require legal residency in order to issue one a driver's license. Because of that I don't (have to ) use any fake documents at all: All mine and my wife's cars have insurance (American Family), and since I am a small business owner, I PAY ALL MY TAXES, and that's a lot of money. I’m actually pretty sure that I pay much more taxes than Mr. Pan (hey, isn't that that boy that never grew up???!!!) and all the others that have posted their opinions here and agree with him; I PROBABLY PAY MORE TAXES THAN ALL THEM TOGETHER! And that's because I have a ITIN number and a driver's license, so I am almost as much American as they are, That's just fair .'.
And I have 3 Kids: One girl (12) and two boys 8 and 6. And they are Americans too, Just like Mr. Pan and his "gang", but with a big difference: I am educating my children so they know even though they're American born they aren't any better than people that came to this country from somewhere else, and that if they want to succeed in this country they will have to work and study very, very hard, instead of weeping about being American. They know even though they were born here, they're ancestors came from somewhere else, just like Mr. Pan's ancestors, unless he is a Navajo, or Apache or Ho-Chunk, etc. Oh but he probably doesn't even know that; must have skiped classes in order to go to play on Neverland, and now he (and others) try to beat frustation talking things too complex for their little understanding and knowlodge.

Thank you.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I am Brazilian, and one more contribution from us (Brazilians) to the US is that when our kids grow this country will finally win it's first World Soccer Cup. So relax everyone, and let's wait for a better and brighter future. Thank You.
