I'd like to know what are the current opinions from international press about the new government here in Brazil, if the communist image is still strong, and the likes. (Edited by Ze at 5:32 am on Jan. 14, 2003)

Ze, of the papers that I read on a regular basis; one British, one multi-national based outside of the U.S., three multi-national based in the U.S., and two others that are supposed to be International, but are more U.S. and local.... the communistic image is still a topic, but not a concern. More a wary waiting to see what happens. The concern most discussed is the economy. Communisism per-se is not the point of consideration, but whether it would be a viable method to help the Brazilian economy. Most citing the failures of Communism in the past if it is mentioned. Actually, at the present moment one has to dig for articles about Brazil in the S. American sections. And, as mentioned, most of those articles will be targeted toward the economy and what Lula will do after he has been in office long enough to make a difference. For now its more of a waiting game.
