Brazil and Botswana Sign Five-Year Accord to Fight AIDS

During today’s visit of Botswana’s President, Festus Mogae, the governments of Botswana and Brazil signed a cooperation agreement establishing norms for future projects between the two countries.

AIDS prevention treatment is one of these areas, according to information provided by the Ministry of Foreign Relations.

Botswana, a country in Africa’s semi-arid region, has high indexes of AIDS virus contamination.

Since 2002 Brazil and Botswana have worked together to combat the disease. The agreement is valid for five years and can be extended for the same period.

The two presidents had a private meeting for talks on a series of issues, including hunger and poverty in the world and strengthening multilateralism. The two presidents have also signed agreements.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva offered a lunch in honor of Botswana’s President, Festus Mogae, at the Foreign Ministry (Palácio do Itamaraty).
